Helping Families Thrive
PC-CARE is a 7-week trauma-informed intervention that supports children and families. Adapted from Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), PC-CARE helps families strengthen their relationships, decrease difficult or disruptive behaviors, and learn calming and co-regulation strategies. This intervention was thoughtfully designed to improve accessibility to evidence-based treatment interventions.
Dr. Alex introduced PC-CARE to the state of Hawai’i in 2020. Dr. Stephanie became a provider and trainer shortly thereafter. Since then, they have trained over 15 providers in this intervention and supported over 50 families statewide.

What Makes PC-CARE Different?
Traditional parent management interventions teach effective skills to caregivers, but families may struggle to put the skills into practice outside of session.
PC-CARE solves this challenge by using live, in-the-moment coaching during session. While caregivers play with their child, their therapist will coach them to practice the skills they’ve learned to get hands-on practice in real time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Training takes place across two phases:
- Phase I: Preparatory Training
- Phase II: Applied Training
To become a certified PC-CARE therapist, you must:
- Be able to work with children & families in a therapeutic capacity
- Be able to commit to the time & work required for the duration of training.
In Phase I, trainees will first attend a virtual, 6-hour skill-building workshop facilitated by Stephanie and/or Alex.
Upon completion of the skill-building workshop, trainees will then participate in 7-weeks of consultation calls where you will follow a full PC-CARE case and meet weekly to discuss.
During Phase II, you will provide PC-CARE to a suitable client with the help and guidance of Stephanie and/or Alex.
For your initial client, you will have weekly prep calls with your primary trainer to review feedback from the previous session and prepare for your upcoming session.
On average, 6 months from the start of Phase I until full certification. However, this amount of time can vary depending on a variety of factors. Talk with your primary trainer to discuss specifics of your situation.
Training will include a combination of virtual meetings and homework to be completed independently. You should plan for an average of 2-3 hours/week to dedicate to PC-CARE training.
Phase I is $500 for the full skill-building workshop.
The cost of Phase II can vary based on several factors. Please send us an inquiry or schedule a meeting to discuss your unique situation.
